Of the hundreds, thousands of functions and features that Windows 11 brings with it, there are 6 of them that you may use, or only some – or perhaps none. And if you are suddenly wondering why this or that feature has suddenly stopped working for you, it is not because of your computer, it is because of Microsoft itself and problems with a certificate.
6 Windows 11 Features That No Longer Work
According to the official Microsoft website: “As of November 1, 2021, some users may not be able to open or use certain built-in Windows applications or parts of some built-in applications”. This is due to a problem with a Microsoft digital certificate, “that expired on October 31, 2021”.
The following applications could be affected:
- Snipping Tool
- Accounts page in Settings app (S mode only)
- Start menu in Settings app (S mode only)
- Touch keyboard, voice typing and Emoji panel
- Input Method Editor User Interface (IME UI)
- Introduction and Suggestions
How can we fix this? Well that is what Microsoft is doing right now, although it gives an ‘alternative solution’ to the problem:
“To mitigate the issue with the Screenshot Tool, Use the Print Screen key on your keyboard and paste the screenshot into your document. You can also paste it into Paint to select and copy the section you want. “
Microsoft has re-launched the October 21 update, KB5006746, like a “partial solution “ which only fixes 3 of the 6 problems:
- Touch keyboard, voice typing and Emoji panel
- Input Method Editor User Interface (IME UI)
- Introduction and Suggestions
For the rest we will have to wait. According to Microsoft: “We are working on a fix for the data wipe tool and S mode, and will provide an update when more information is available.”
