We recently told you that Mass Effect, the popular science fiction saga developed by BioWare, is very close to having a series produced by Amazon Studios. Negotiations are on the table and the agreement seems close, although there is someone who does not like the idea: David Gaider, former writer of the study and participant in works such as Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR and Baldur’s Gate, among others. He is a relevant figure, since he spent no more and no less than 17 years in the ranks of the company.
Through his Twitter account, Gaider explained the reasons why he believes that a Mass Effect series could lead to an inappropriate product: “It relieves me to think that the project is not for a movie, but for a series. In any case, the idea makes me shiver (I think the same for Dragon Age), unlike what many fans think… ”, he comments.
The nature of the protagonist, one of the problems
Gaider considers that the fact that the games offer the possibility of customizing our character is the first of the problems that may arise, due to the need to create a fixed one, it will make part of the followers of the saga feel excluded. “The first thing is that you will have to choose between a woman or a man. Boom, with that you just alienated a lot of fans from the get-go. “
He has also highlighted the difference between a role-playing video game and a series or movie: “A character in the video game is like a blank canvas that is completed with the player’s decisions, and that is not going to work for a passive medium; It will make the protagonist have his own personality and his own story. It will be something strange… ”. Finally, Gaider has been forceful when it comes to predicting the final result, stating that there is a risk that it is “a retreaded product that fans don’t need”.
The return of the trilogy
If you want to enjoy the entire saga, Mass Effect Legendary Edition includes the original trilogy (and its DLC) and is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One. For its part, the fourth and last title, Mass Effect Andromeda, is part of the PC, PS4 and Xbox One catalogs; also on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S thanks to backward compatibility.
