AirPods Pro have recently come with a revised charging case. The in-ear plugs with active noise cancellation (ANC), which cost 280 euros from the manufacturer, now not only support an inductive power supply via Qi-compatible charging pads, but also contain the magnets required for Apple’s own MagSafe charging technology. This allows the plugs in their case to be placed magnetically on MagSafe Duo charging pads or strips with a MagSafe puck. It was initially unclear whether this had an impact on the loading speed.
New variant from now on
The manufacturer is delivering the improvement with immediate effect: The first users have already received the new version of the great-sounding AirPods Pro. The hardware costs no more and no less than before. Accordingly, you should make sure that you really acquire the newer models. They are marked on the packaging with the addition “MagSafe Charging Case” under the AirPods-Pro lettering. Currently, however, the revised devices are mainly available from Apple itself, but they are gradually coming onto the regular market.
AirPods 3 show how it is done
Apple first introduced MagSafe in the Airpods charging case with the AirPods 3, which were introduced earlier this week. The only technology missing from Apple’s mobile audio products is the AirPods Max over-ear headphones. However, these do not even have a charging case – a so-called smart cover is included instead. An installation of MagSafe would probably only be conceivable in the ear cups; whether Apple plans to do this for future generations remains unclear. So far, MagSafe has not been included in the devices of the Apple subsidiary Beats. It is also conceivable that the group will only reserve the charging technology for devices from the main brand.
Repurchase is currently not feasible
If you have already purchased your AirPods Pro, you will first have to do without MagSafe. Apple had previously offered inductive charging cases for the AirPods 1 and 2 for re-purchase. This would also be an option with the AirPods Pro, but there is currently no talk of such a possibility, and such a product type is not yet found in the Group’s online shop.
