From July 1, 2021, both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd will be adding some notebooks, desktop PCs and tablets from the manufacturer Medion to their range. Two notebooks that are suitable for mobile work stand out: the Akoya E3222 for 300 euros and the Akoya S17405 for 750 euros. There is also the Akoya E32012 desktop PC with AMD’s Ryzen 3 Pro 4350G combination processor for 480 euros.

The Akoya E3222 is equipped with the Pentium Silver N5030 mobile processor from Intel’s Gemini Lake Refresh series. It uses four CPU cores, but from the Atom family. The processor together with 4 GB of DDR4 RAM should be sufficient for basic office work. The 128 GB SATA 6G SSD with pre-installed Windows 10 Home in S mode is pleasing – manufacturers often use slower eMMC flash in this price segment. The built-in radio module masters Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.

Care should be taken when purchasing, because Aldi sells three different versions of the Akoya E3222. All three use a 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen with full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels). In the notebooks that Aldi Nord sells in its own branches, the display covers the sRGB color space to 95 percent and shines with a good 300 cd / m². Dual-channel RAM is also used.

The devices in the Aldi Süd branches cover 72 percent of the NTSC color space and use single-channel RAM, which can slow down the processor in memory-intensive applications. Models ordered online use the better display, but also use single-channel RAM.

Similarly expensive notebooks are usually worse equipped than the Aldi device:

The Akoya S17405 is much larger with a 17.3-inch screen. The IPS panel displays 1920 × 1080 pixels (Full HD), covers 72 percent of the NTSC color space and shines at 300 cd / m². The quad-core processor Core i5-1135G7 from Intel’s Tiger Lake series is significantly faster than the above Pentium, and there is 8 instead of 4 GB of RAM (DDR4-3200). There are two SO-DIMMs in dual-channel operation in the notebook, which can be replaced with larger bars if necessary. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled on a 512 GB SATA 6G SSD.

Unlike many other Tiger Lake notebooks, Medion does without Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 in the Akoya S17405. Instead, there are three USB 3.2 Gen 1 with 5 GBit / s, including a Type-C connection with DisplayPort image output.

Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord sell the same version exclusively online for 750 euros.

Meanwhile, the desktop PC Akoya E32012 contains the quad-core combined processor Ryzen 3 Pro 4350G from AMD’s Renoir series. There is a single 8 GB DDR4-2666 module ex works on the mainboard, a second UDIMM can be retrofitted. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled on a 512 GB PCI Express SSD. Also included is Wi-Fi 6 aka WLAN 802.11ax.

Both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd also sell the Akoya E32012 online for 480 euros.
