Renowned New York actor Alec Baldwin had a terrifying moment when he shot director of photography Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza while rehearsing a scene for the movie “Rust” at the Bonanza Creek ranch in Santa Fe.
Hutchins died on the set of the film while Souza was shot in the shoulder and saved by being assisted. Today the media gave more details of what happened because an affidavit of search warrant and 911 calls was released.
Alec, Hutchins, Souza and part of the recording team were at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, they were rehearsing a scene inside a rustic church. Assistant Director Dave Halls handed Baldwin a prop gun, previously yelling, “Cold Gun,” indicating it is unloaded.
The actor had to perform a cross shot and it was necessary for him to draw the weapon and point it directly at the camera that at that time he was not recording because it was only a rehearsal.
Joel Souza was watching the scene through the camera and nearby monitors when suddenly there was a great noise that “sounded like a whip and then a loud bang,” the director told authorities.
According to the data collected by CNN in Spanish, the director “staggered backwards and fell to the ground clutching her stomach and saying that she could not feel her legs.” While Joel who was next to her noticed that her shoulder was bleeding.
At that point, a script supervisor called 911 and recounted everything that had happened. “Two people have been accidentally shot on a film set with a prop gun. We need help immediately … A director and a camerawoman have been shot”The woman said, according to a transcript of the call obtained by KOAT and posted on CNN’s website.
“We have two wounded by a movie, a gunshot … I was sitting, we were rehearsing and it was shot, and I ran, we all ran. They were on the floor … the camerawoman and the director”, He added.
There was a second call from a man who reported that a doctor on set was helping the injured. After the call the sheriff arrived at the scene and Alec Baldwin had to hand over his bloodstained outfit and prop gun.
