Actress Amanda Seyfried made a guest appearance on Good Morning America on the same day disgraced tech entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Seyfried, who portrayed Holmes in the Hulu miniseries The Dropout, acknowledged the coincidence and expressed sympathy for the children involved in the case.

Holmes was found guilty on four counts of fraud and conspiracy in January 2022 for lying about her company’s blood-testing technology and defrauding investors out of millions of dollars. She was also ordered to pay restitution to investors, including media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Seyfried’s portrayal of Holmes earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Her next project is the Apple TV+ crime mystery miniseries The Crowded Room, in which she stars alongside Tom Holland.

Holmes turned herself in to a federal prison in Texas before a court-imposed deadline, surrounded by other non-violent white-collar criminals. She was granted an extension to resolve various issues related to the care of her children.
