The American crime drama TV shows American Rust was made by Dan Futterman and is based on Philipp Meyer’s book of the same name. The book’s plot takes place in a small Rust Belt town in Pennsylvania. The town’s chief of police, Del Harris, is asked to look into the murder of the son of the woman he loves.
After the first season ended, fans of the show wondered if it would be back for a second season. Can it be kept from being abruptly cancelled by the Showtime network? If you’re wondering what will happen to the series, we have some exciting news.
Here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know about the release date, plot, and cast so you can get a head start on the next episode and be ready before the series starts. Here’s what we know so far about Season 2 of American Rust.
American Rust Characters and Cast
The second season of the revived American Rust is likely to be made by Boat Rocker Studios. Tierney and Daniels are expected to play their roles again, and executive producer and writer Dan Futterman is also expected to come back. Now that there are so many streaming services, shows like American Rust that was cancelled by one network often get another chance to tell their stories.
This new pick-up means that Grace and Del’s story will continue. For now, though, people who wanted to see what happened after season 1 of American Rust will be able to do so now that the next episode has a new home.
American Rust Season 1 Recap: What Did We Watch In Season 1?
Grace Poe, Billy’s mom, has trouble paying all the bills because her salary isn’t enough to cover them. When the bank gives her the notice to leave, she asks his ex-husband for help. Vigil, Grace’s husband, threatens the bank reps with a shotgun, giving Grace time to keep her house.
Del is out on a date with Grace when he gets a phone call with news about Billy. Since Billy is the main suspect, Del has to make deals and sacrifices and choices that will come back to haunt him later.
American Rust Season 2 Release Date
We still don’t know for sure. Showtime hasn’t told anything official about what will happen next with this show. Fans, on the other hand, are giving these series a lot of bad reviews. It’s crazy that a movie can be based on an epic book with well-known actors but still not live up to what the audience wants.
Even though the show has many good points, the bad points outweigh the good ones. It’s too bad that the chance that the show will be cancelled is higher than it will be renewed. Still, we haven’t found out yet! If the show is renewed, it will likely start up again at the end of 2023.
The Showtime crime drama with Jeff Daniels that had been renewed for a second season has been cancelled.
The Plot Of American Rust Season 2
As we wrote in our article about whether “American Rust” would get a second season, Season 1 ended on so many cliffhangers that it seemed pretty clear where the show could have gone next. The big change is that after Del spent Season 1 looking into Billy’s role in the death of former cop-turned-drug dealer Pete Novick (Jim True-Frost), he now has to hide the fact that he killed three people.
If you didn’t see it, Del had to defend himself by killing two of Novick’s friends and their 87-year-old cousin. At the end of Season 1, Del’s deputy, Steve Park, was suspicious that Del had something to do with the murders.
With these things in mind, fans probably hoped that Season 2 would include the following plots: Steve Park played Del, and at the end of Season 2, Del found out that Novick’s real killer was Billy’s friend Isaac English, who killed Novick to protect Billy. Del chose to hide the fact that Isaac was involved.
The Poe family’s story ended dramatically in “American Rust,” even though their family doesn’t exist anymore. Grace set fire to her own house so she could move closer to Del.
She also tried to get the workers at the warehouse where she worked to join a union, which didn’t work out in the end. In the end, Billy got a bad beating in prison, putting him in a coma. Overall, “American Rust” Season 2 could have picked up a lot of different stories.
