Fortnite: this is “I’m Happy”, the unofficial version of Hatsune Miku’s Ievan Polkka
At 01:00 CET on 12/11/2021, the pakchunk1004-WindowsClient.utoc file was decrypted from the Fortnite Battle Royale file system. These files contain the dance I’m happy, which also hit the in-game store this day. You can see the dance just below:
For a price of 500 V-Bucks (the current equivalence rate is 1,000 V-Bucks = € 7.99), we can get hold of this new gesture / dance of the Icon Series/Idol Series de Fortnite.
The dance is an unofficial version of Ieva’s polka, a Finnish folk song from 1928; Its most popular version is the cover of the Japanese singer of Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. Its popularity led to it being used as a tutorial song in various video games of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA.
Taking into account both the rhythm of the song in Fortnite and the dance steps and the fact that the character is carrying a couple of vegetables, it is more than evident that the gesture I am Happy is a reference to the Ievan Polkka version of Hatsune Miku. However, taking into account the successive collaborations of Fortnite Battle Royale both in the form of skins and concerts such as that of Ariana Grande, we wonder why they haven’t bothered to license Ievan Polkka’s cover of Hatsune Miku.
