Argentina announces the permanence of the petrochemical company Dow in the country

Buenos Aires, Oct 13 (EFE) .- The Government of Argentina announced on Wednesday the permanence of the plant that the US petrochemical company Dow has in the country and the opening of a dialogue table with representatives of the company to “discuss the conditions of competitiveness that allow the continuity “of its operations, reported official sources.

“The Minister of Productive Development, Matias Kulfas together with the governor of Santa Fe, Omar Perotti and the president of Dow for Latin America, Javier Constante met today at the headquarters of the Ministry to formalize the opening of a dialogue table,” they indicated from that ministerial portfolio in a statement.

The meeting was held, as they added, with the intention of “discussing competitive conditions” that allow the continuity of the operation of the factory located in San Lorenzo, in the province of Santa Fe (center).

Last August, the multinational announced its decision for the plant in San Lorenzo to operate normally until May 2022, after which a process will begin with a view to its final closure towards the end of that year.

At the time, the company explained that its decision was part of the global announcements made by the company in July 2020 to reduce operating expenses and implement a restructuring program that includes closures around the world.

However, according to the government announcement, the firm’s representative informed that the company will withdraw its closure announcement in Argentina.

“Constante announced that Dow is withdrawing the announcement of the closure of the plant, reiterated the company’s commitment to the country and was confident that the parties involved will be willing to allow a constructive dialogue,” they stated in the document.

The meeting took place after several weeks of meetings between Dow representatives, provincial and national officials.

According to official sources, the petrochemical company in Argentina supplies 73% of the domestic supply of polyoxypropylene glycol and 41.5% of glycol ethers, essential inputs for the automotive industry, the manufacture of mattresses and household appliances.
