This Sunday, Billboard and Telemundo will honor various Latina singers and their achievements in music. Among them is Shakira, who will be honored with the award for Woman of the Year 2023 at the first Billboard Latin Women in Music event. The interpreter of “Días de enero” and “Antología” will be recognized for her contributions to the music industry, bringing recognition and opportunities for other women Latinas through her career and the philanthropic efforts she leads.
The music special will last two hours and will be broadcast on May 7 on Telemundo at 9:00 p.m. (Miami Time) and Peacock. In addition to honoring Shakira, women artists, executives, and creatives will be celebrated. As if that were not enough, there will be performances by Ana Gabriel, Emilia, Maria Becerra, Evaluna, Goyo, and Thalía.

The Colombian singer received the first Woman of the Year award in the first edition of Billboard’s ‘Latin Women in Music.’
“It’s being a woman,” Shakira said. The singer spoke about how music helped her heal and find peace in the midst of her recent breakup with Piqué. “There comes a time when the search for the other is replaced by the search for oneself,” Shakira said.
Shakira dedicated the award to all the women, especially her mother, and to all the single mothers who “defend their children like lionesses.” “More than celebrating the woman of the year, we should celebrate the year of women.”
María Becerra receives the Visionaria award

Known as the “baby of Argentina,” María Becerra received the Visionaria award. The singer thanked Billboard for “thinking of awards that recognize the effort and work of all women.”
“This award has a lot to do with the ability to generate ideas and not sit still for a second,” said Becerra.
Ana Gabriel is honored with the Living Legend award

Ana Gabriel, known as “la Luna de América” receives the first prize of Living Legend in the first edition of Billboard Latin Women in Music. “With great respect and humility, I receive the honor because I continue to be seen and heard,” said Ana Gabriel.
The Mexican singer thanked the award talking about the definition of the word “legend.” She also thanked all those who have helped her in her career. “I became who I am because the public decided it this way.”
The Colombian singer Goyo receives the Agent of Change award

Along with her family, the singer thanked her Colombian people who have always supported her. “When there is light, the light filters through any opening,” said Goyo.
Thalia receives the Poderosa Global award

Singer, actress, designer, producer, writer, and a great mom, Thalia receives the first Poderosa Global award. After thanking her audience and her family, Thalia gave a message of empowerment for all women. “The word we’ve heard the most is ’empowered woman,'” said Thalia. “For me, that word is a bit short, I think we were all born with power, we all believe and are strong and why is nobody going to empower us… we already have it.”
Evaluna Montaner receives the Tradition and Future award

Evaluna received the Tradition and Future award at the first edition of Billboard Latin Women in Music. After singing “If the World was Ending” with JP Saxe, Evaluna said she was proud of her family.
