The return of Black Mirror
The wait is finally over. Black Mirror, the critically acclaimed dystopian drama series, is back with its sixth season. The series, which explores the relationship between humans and technology, returns after a four-year hiatus.
On May 31st, the first full trailer for the series premiered before the season hits Netflix on June 15th. The trailer promises to take viewers on a journey through “five groundbreaking new storylines.”
The new storylines
The series will explore five new “realities”, which come with their own set of “nightmares”, “revelations”, “hallucinations”, “puzzles”, and “confusions.”
The first storyline revolves around a woman, played by Schitt’s Creek star, Annie Murphy, who finds out she’s the subject of a show called Joan. is Awful on a streaming service that looks suspiciously similar to Netflix.
The second episode, titled “Loch Henry,” is set in Scotland and focuses on the obsession with true crime. Starring Industry star Myha’la Herrold, it promises to be a thrilling ride.
The third episode, “Beyond the Sea,” starring Aaron Paul, takes viewers on an adventure set in space.
In “Mazey Day,” the fourth episode, viewers will follow a disgraced celebrity and how the paparazzi try to track her down after a mental breakdown.
The fifth episode is called “Demon 79” and features “Red Mirror” instead of “Black Mirror.” It stars Anjana Vasan and Paapa Essiedu.
The series boasts an impressive cast, including Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Monica Dolan, Rory Culkin, Samuel Blenkin, and Zazie Beetz.
The “mild reboot”
Executive producer Charlie Brooker, who wrote Black Mirror for both Netflix and its original Channel 4 home, described the sixth season as a “mild reboot” for the sci-fi series. He stated that he didn’t want to tackle the same premises repeatedly and wanted to avoid dystopian shows similar to Black Mirror.
“None of which I will watch because I have overwhelming professional jealousy and will get upset,” he said while discussing the canceled drama from HBO, Westworld.
