On Monday, April 19, Camila Cabello was the big guest on the Carpool Karaoke segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and the star revealed a funny anecdote. While riding in the car with the comedian, the artist confessed that the big reason she auditioned for The X Factor was her crush on Harry Styles, who competed on the show two years earlier.
“I was 15 years old, I was a big fan of One Direction and I was like The Voice? The X Factor? And I was like, ‘Well, One Direction will be in X Factor, I don’t know if they’ll be in The Voice, so let me audition for X Factor,'” Cabello recalled of the reason he decided to get into The X Factor. “This is really embarrassing,” the artist said with a laugh.
“I can only say this because obviously, that was 10 years ago, but I literally said, ‘I’m auditioning for X Factor because I’m getting married to Harry Styles.’ I really believed it at the time,” Cabello added. The artist also had a plan B if the marriage didn’t work: “I didn’t think we were going to get married, but I thought, ‘I’m going to audition for X Factor, we’ll meet, I’ll become a singer and we’ll probably fall in love.’

“It wasn’t like marriage, but I was like, ‘We’ll probably fall in love.’ By the way, it’s the first time I’ve confessed the true intent behind my audition for X Factor,” Cabello said. The star auditioned for the show’s second season in 2012 as a solo contestant and was placed in the group Fifth Harmony, which eventually finished in third place.
Cabello also revealed to Corden during his car ride that since his breakup from Shawn Mendes in late November after two years of relationship, he has received some direct messages on Instagram, though he didn’t dare to give names. The artist and host performed the hit songs Havana, Don’t Go Yet, Bam Bam, Liar and Mr. Brightside.
