Can Doctor Strange see the Future without the Time Gem?

The main thing about the first twenty-three films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which make up the Infinity Saga, is Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) plan; get six very powerful artifacts, created by the Cosmic Entities, and charge half of the living beings of the overpopulated universe.

In Avengers: Infinity War he achieved his purpose with a lethal snap and, in Endgame (Joe and Anthony Russo, 2018, 2019), he had destroyed the artifacts. Even the Time Gem, which was previously guarded by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

With it, contained in the Eye of Agamotto, the Supreme Sorcerer could manage time. This means, among other things, going back in it as during the fight against Kaecilius(Mads Mikkelsen)and Dormammu in Doctor Strange (Scott Derrickson, 2016); or seeing all possible futures, just like in the aforementioned Avengers: Infinity War.

However, with the disappearance of the Time Gem, it could be thought that the greatest expert of the Mystic Arts would already be unable to know what the future holds for the Marvelite superheroes. But not necessarily.

After Loki (Michael Waldron, from 2021), any viewer a day in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might suggest that the Temporal Variation Authority is aware of future events; or that the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), who we have been introduced to in What If…?

(A.C. Bradley, since 2021), also possesses the necessary skills to travel through the different universes unleashed after the actions of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). But our Doctor Strange has no relation to any of them. For now, of course.

Nonetheless, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) travel back in time through the Quantum Realm in Avengers: Endgame; and if they could move to the past, nothing prevents them from considering themselves in the future to know it. But, focusing on the powers of Stephen Strange, as Thomas Bacon reminds us in Screen Rant, marvel’s writers gave us an unexpected clue in Thor: Ragnarok (Taika Waititi, 2017) on this matter.
