The Princes of Wales, William of England and Kate Middleton, recently surprised pub-goers at the Dog & Duck Pub in London’s Soho, just two days before Charles III’s coronation. The royal couple took the Elizabeth line from Acton Main Line station and chatted with workers from the London Underground (TfL) along the way. Upon arrival at the pub, crowds cheered their arrival. Inside, Prince William took the opportunity to serve himself a pint of the special coronation beer brewed by Nicholson’s for the event. The couple later greeted passers-by and took selfies with the crowd outside.
The day before, the Prince of Wales attended rehearsals for the historic event at the Abbey of Westminster, with William and Kate arriving with their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The coronation weekend will see pubs nationwide holding events to mark the event, with staff at the Dog & Duck Pub giving the royal couple an insight into preparing for the busy weekend ahead.
Kate Middleton looked elegant in an Eponine London coat paired with a white Suzannah dress, previously worn on a date in Wimbledon. Prince William kept things casual in a suit and blue shirt without a tie. The couple’s relaxed, natural charm made an impact on witnesses, with one even praising Prince William’s pint-serving skills.
The coronation of Charles III will be filled with pomp and pageantry, but the Princes of Wales showed a more fun and carefree side during their visit to the Soho pub. The couple’s encounter with the pub-goers and staff gave the public a glimpse into the run-up to the grand ceremony and what the West End is like when tens of thousands of people flock to the capital.
