Mujeres Latinas en la Música: A Celebration of Latina Women in Music
The first edition of Mujeres Latinas en la Música was a huge success. The event took place on Saturday, May 6th, in Miami, and it was packed with impressive performances, memorable speeches, and emotional moments.
The Best Moments of the Inaugural Event
One of the highlights of the night was Thalia’s epic medley. The singer performed “Amor a la mexicana” and “A quien le cara,” among other hits. Another unforgettable moment was Shakira’s inspiring acceptance speech for Woman of the Year.
The gala was hosted by Ivy Queen and Jacqueline Bracamontes. The Latin Women in Music celebration is the first of its kind, and it aims to celebrate Latina artists, executives, and creatives who are proactively working for positive change, inclusion, and gender parity in the music industry.
The Honorees
Shakira received the first award for Woman of the Year. Ana Gabriel was also honored as a Living Legend. Emilia was awarded the Rising Star award, while María Becerra received the Visionary award. Evaluna was recognized with the Tradition and Future award, and Goyo was honored with the Change Agent award. Thalia was recognized as Global Powerful.
Expanding Billboard’s Women in Music Franchise
Billboard’s inaugural Latin Women in Music event was announced earlier this year as an expansion of Billboard’s Women in Music franchise. Billboard and Telemundo aim to further elevate Latin music globally and celebrate women who have made a concrete impact on Latin music.
Through their artistic achievements or tangible and notable actions, these women have created recognition and concrete opportunities for women, achieving positive change in the industry as a whole.
Watch the Celebration
If you missed the event, you can still watch it on Sunday, May 7th, at 9 pm ET exclusively on Telemundo and Peacock. Celebrate the amazing Latina women who are changing the music industry for the better.
