Hollywood actress, writer, and script doctor, Carrie Fisher, who dedicated her career to the legacy of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, did not have a tile on the Hollywood Walk of Fame until recently. As of May 4th, her name is now forever engraved on the boulevard as part of the annual Star Wars Day celebration. This, however, has become a family battle between the actress’s brothers and her daughter, Billie Lourd, airing dirty laundry on social networks and press releases.
Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother, started the process to obtain the tile that would be dedicated to his sister. He was upset when the family was excluded from the ceremony and protested to Disney, but the studio told him that the family had already filled all the available seats and that the final decision was in their hands.
Hours later, Carrie Fisher’s sisters, Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher, publicly accused Billie Lourd of “deliberately” excluding them from the event. In response, Billie Lourd stated that her family had “capitalized on the death” of Carrie, and that her uncles and aunts had chosen to grieve publicly and capitalize on her mother’s death just days after her passing in 2016.
Todd Fisher responded to Billie Lourd’s allegations by saying that he tried to talk to her team before going public with his opinion and that he didn’t know why he wasn’t invited. But he hints at family enmity in his statement where there is no communication between uncle and niece, and Billie, for her apparent disappointment in the book published by her uncle in 2018 and subsequent interviews talking about Debbie and Carrie.
This isn’t the first time the family has been embroiled in a media battle. Six years ago, there was an alleged family battle over Debbie Reynolds’ multi-million dollar estate. Regardless, Carrie Fisher will forever be remembered on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a legendary actress and feminist icon.
