Carrie Fisher Honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The late Carrie Fisher was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 4th, also known as Star Wars Day. Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, accepted the star on her mother’s behalf, wearing a dress with Fisher’s portrait printed on it. Lourd sprinkled glitter on the star, an homage to Fisher’s love of the sparkling material.
Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill was present at the ceremony and shared memories of Fisher, whom he met when she was just 19 years old. “She was our Princess, our General, and more importantly, our friend,” he said.
Fisher played the iconic character of Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, a character that Lourd called “strength,” “grace,” and “witty.” Lourd added, “She doesn’t need anyone to help her.”
Fisher’s star is located on Hollywood Boulevard alongside co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Fisher’s star is the 2,754th to be unveiled on the Walk of Fame, which recognizes luminaries in film, television, music, and other entertainment industries.
Fans have long campaigned for Fisher to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. This honor comes on a day that is celebrated by Star Wars fans around the world, as the sound of the date “May the Fourth” sounds like dialogue often used in the films: “May the Force be with you.”
