At 12 noon this Wednesday, Carme Forcadell, former president of the Catalan Parliament, was released from prison. She was the first Catalan independence leader to leave prison after the Government of Spain approved yesterday the pardons of nine of those convicted of the separatist process carried out in 2017.

Immediately afterwards, the other eight prisoners left two other prisons. All of them have been received by a delegation from Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), one of the two parties that make up the Catalan Government. The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonés, has addressed there.

The measure has counted on the strong rejection of conservative parties, which have already announced judicial remedies; and with the criticism of a sector of the independence movement that considers that it is an insufficient measure and they demand amnesty that it also covers politicians who have fled from Spanish Justice who reside in other European countries and other people who have been affected by legal proceedings and fines for their participation in the illegal referendum on self-determination.

More information shortly.
