The CCOO union carried out this Sunday in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) an act of remembrance to the victims of the work accident in which nine workers of auxiliary and subcontracting companies died due to an explosion at the Repsol refinery (BME:Rep) on 14 August 2013.

The attendees have deposited nine roses on the commemorative plaque installed on the Paseo de San Gregorio, next to the Casa de Baños, in recognition and memory of the nine workers who died in that accident, the union has reported.

“The loss of these nine colleagues and all those who die at work must remain in the memory,” said the general secretary of CCOO of Ciudad Real, José Manuel Muñoz, who has pointed out the union’s struggle to eradicate occupational accidents.

He has called on the business community to remember that “it is theirs the maximum responsibility when it comes to preserving the safety and health of workers in their workplaces” and has urged “not to put economic considerations before relegating their obligations in terms of risk prevention, because life is the most valuable”.
