Clece’s support unit, a pioneering initiative for social and labor inclusion

Today the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. A day through which visibility is given to this global problem to make society aware of the need to eradicate it. Not surprisingly, two out of three women have suffered some type of violence firsthand or know someone who is going through this situation, according to the latest annual report by UN Women.

For this reason, it is so important that among all social agents, both individually and collectively, we form a network so that women who suffer abuse and violence can ask for help, recover and move forward with dignity. Many of these victims not only need protection and assistance in their day-to-day lives, but also a job that encourages their inclusion and economic independence to have the same opportunities as other citizens.

They are very aware of this at Clece, which incorporates into its structure a service that, under the name of the Support Unit, helps women victims of gender violence hired by the company. To do this, various actions are put in place, such as the organization of support days and continuous psychosocial monitoring to ensure that these new recruits are well, as well as to perceive the possible problems that other women on the workforce have and help them find solutions.

“This is a pioneering business initiative in Spain that has been a clear response and commitment to inclusion from Clece’s senior management”, as stated by Mateo Lamirán, Clece’s social delegate in Levante. “The Support Unit was born in the Special Employment Centers, but in our company, for years it was implemented in the structure to integrate vulnerable groups that require special guarantees in the workplace and, in this way, limit their exposure discriminatory situations ”, he adds.

Lamirán also explains that this internal initiative ensures the labor, social and personal well-being of these very fragile groups. For this reason, at the beginning of the hiring a first assessment of the situation of each of these women is made and extra support is contemplated so that the performance of their tasks in the company is total and there is a full integration of the person.

Full integration of people and detailed monitoring

Mercedes Ortega, a psychologist from the Support Unit of the southern area of ​​Clece, tells how the recruitment and monitoring of these women who have suffered violence in their homes works. “In Clece there is a priority hiring of vulnerable groups that have a complicated labor inclusion. We contact different associations and foundations that give us a curriculum so that we can do the hiring and we nourish ourselves with these profiles, always treating everything with the utmost confidentiality. In other words, we know the problem they have been able to and may have in order to help them, but in their jobs no one has knowledge of anything ”, he points out.

Once the employee has been hired, Ortega herself makes a detailed follow-up – by telephone or in person – of how she is or if she feels good in that position. “This is important for him to develop his professional work. If you have a problem, we talk about it and see if you need help, guidance or be referred to psychological care or propose an association that treats the possible problem, since these people have gone through very difficult times.

Regarding discretion, Lamirán comments: “It is important for us and for them. There are more open people and others less given to tell anything, so in many cases we observe and if they need help we provide it ”.

Regarding the reserve when it comes to telling personal situations, Clece’s social delegate gives an example that has happened on occasion. “We had been observing that one of the employees was late. When we talked to her, we discovered that she was not on time because she had no one to stay with her children before taking them to school. At this time, the Support Unit sought financial help for him so that he could leave the children before starting school and carry out his work without problems ”.

More than a job

Ultimately, Ortega explains, this Clece Support Unit tries to make a complete support plan for women victims of gender violence, including addressing their economic and family situation. “I insist, always with confidentiality,” he says. “Besides,” adds Ortega, “I always ask them to give them the full day because they tend to be single-parent families and they also need to get ahead economically. They want to feel useful, to fend for themselves. Throughout this time, I have learned that for them this is more than a job, it is a way of feeling fulfilled. I personally learn from them in each of our conversations ”.

The Clece Support Unit represents a great advance that favors the achievement of a new life for many women who have been victims of gender violence.

To promote the labor integration of victims of gender violence, Clece works with associations dedicated to this group. The company is part of the program Network of Companies for a Society Free of Gender Violence promoted by the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare and which aims to sensitize society against this scourge, as well as promote the socio-labor insertion of women. victims.
