(Bloomberg) – The share of global wealth held by billionaires soared to a record during the pandemic, according to a study by the Global Inequality Lab, a group founded by French economist Thomas Piketty. Some 2,750 billionaires control 3.5% of the world’s wealth, while the poorest half of the planet’s population owns about 2%. In most of the world, the richest 10% of people control between 60% and 80% of the wealth. Latin America and the Middle East are the most unequal regions in the world, with more than 75% of the wealth in the hands of the richest 10%.
