Dallas Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy Praises Isaac Alarcón’s Transition to Defense
Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Isaac Alarcón in his transition to defense for the upcoming 2023 NFL season. McCarthy commended Alarcón’s skills on the field and stated that he is excited to see him in action. The coach believes that playing defense comes more naturally to Alarcón and that he is building a strong foundation.
Alarcón joined the Cowboys in 2020 through the NFL International Program. As an undrafted free agent, he was one of four players awarded to the NFC that year. Throughout the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Alarcón remained on the Cowboys’ practice squad as part of the offensive line, playing as both a tackle and a guard.
Although Alarcón started as a starter in the last game of the preseason last year, he did not make the final 53-player cut for the regular season and remained on the practice team. However, in January of this year, the Cowboys announced that Alarcón would switch to defense due to his exceptional abilities.
The Mexican-born player completed the initial defensive activities organized by the team, showcasing his skills as a defensive tackle. Now, during the mandatory minicamp, Alarcón has already gained valuable experience through numerous practices and credits defensive assistant coach Sharrif Floyd, as well as his teammates Osa Odighizuwa and Neville Gallimore, for helping him establish himself in his new position.
As a former player for the Borregos of the Tecnológico de Monterrey in collegiate soccer in Mexico, Alarcón expressed his excitement about the possibility of becoming a quarterback hunter for the upcoming season. He considers chasing the quarterback to be more enjoyable and looks forward to the challenges ahead.
Overall, Alarcón’s transition to defense has impressed coach McCarthy and the Cowboys organization, providing them with a boost in their defensive lineup heading into the 2023 NFL season.
