Danny DeVito, who played the villain known as Penguin in the 1992 film Batman Returns, will reprise the character … but this time in a comic.
The middle GamesRadar has reported that the own DeVito is writing a comic book story about the villain, which will be published under the name Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1 from DC and due out in November. The story of the Penguin is intended to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Batman villain.
The Penguin was first shown in the Detective Comics Issue 58, 1941 and his popularity grew from there, taking on multiple forms and roles. Sometimes he’s a petty gangster trying to get to the top and other times he’s already sitting on the throne of Gotham’s criminals. Although it has been shown in different ways, the essence of the character has always been maintained.
In the case of DeVito’s Penguin in Batman Returns, the character is approached in a more lighthearted way and leans towards a more literal facet of his name: looks similar to penguins and displays tools and weapons themed with these animals. Let’s remember that he used bomb penguins. If you have not seen the film, we recommend you do so.
Going back to the comic, it has not yet been revealed what the story will be about. In fact, We don’t even know if DeVito is based on other penguins, if he created his own or if he will continue the story of the character he played in 1992. In any case, we will have to wait to find out.
