“Demon’s Souls” etc .: Sony takes over Bluepoint Games

Sony’s Playstation Studios extends the list of their Playstation developers with the acquisition of Bluepoint Games, the developers of the Playstation action role-playing game “Demon’s Souls”. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Friday. A corresponding agreement with Bluepoint Games has already been made. Bluepoint Games is not only interesting for Sony because of their strong remake titles such as “Shadow of the Colossus” for PS4 and “Demon’s Souls” for the PS5. The developer studio would also work on its own games.

Playstation Studios and Bluepoint Games have been working together for around 15 years. June was due to a mistake in Playstation Studios’ takeover of Housemarque the wrong image has been uploaded. Instead of Housemarque, Sony welcomed Bluepoint Games to their “family” instead, so the takeover comes as no surprise. Hermen Hulst, Head of Playstation Studios, praised Bluepoint Games and sees the takeover as a significant enrichment for Playstation Studios. He praised the technical knowledge, creativity and ambition of the development team.

It was contractually agreed that the purchase price and further details should not be disclosed. What is certain, however, is that Bluepoint Games will continue to be headed by the current management team after the takeover.

Bluepoint Games is one of several Playstation developer studios that Sony recently acquired. In addition to Housemarque in June, Sony also incorporated Firespite, developer of “The Playroom”, in early September. With Bluepoint Games, a total of 15 developer studios are now on the Playstation Studios list.
