Coolidge revealed that her infatuation with cooking and chefs began when she was living in New York City in the late 80s. At the time, she was working as a waitress while trying to pursue a career in acting. It was during this period that she was exposed to some of the city’s finest dining establishments and the chefs who ran them.
“I just loved the atmosphere of these kitchens- the heat, the movement, the yelling. It was like watching a ballet, but with knives,” Coolidge said.
For the Legally Blonde actress, there is something thrilling about watching chefs throw down in the kitchen. She likened it to watching a good tennis match or a boxing match – her heart races with excitement at the tension between the chefs and the art they are creating.
“Angry chefs are like artists – they’re so passionate about what they do that they can get easily frustrated. And I love watching them channel that frustration into something beautiful,” she added.
Coolidge even named some of her favorite chefs with hot tempers, including Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White. She has also been known to attend food festivals and cooking competitions just to watch the chefs battle it out in the kitchen.
In the end, Coolidge’s admiration for chefs and their fiery personalities has given her a deeper appreciation for the artistry that goes into creating each dish. She encourages others to look past the yelling and screaming and to pay attention to the beauty that unfolds on the plate.
“There’s something truly special about watching chefs create – their passion for food is infectious,” she said. “It’s like being a part of something magical.”
