Dozens Hurt in Tractor Accident at Wisconsin Apple Orchard

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. — A serious accident occurred at a Chippewa County apple orchard on Wednesday morning, sending 25 individuals to the hospital.

Chippewa Fire District Deputy Chief Cory Jeffers reported that two hay wagons filled with adults and children collided during the incident. Sheriff of Chippewa County, Travis Hakes, noted that one of the wagons lost control on a downhill slope, leading to the crash.

In response to the accident, officials activated a mass casualty protocol, resulting in 25 people being transported to different hospitals in the area. Marshfield Medical Center in Eau Claire confirmed it received seven patients from the incident, who are undergoing treatment for varying degrees of injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Furthermore, one helicopter was dispatched to provide additional assistance at the scene.

“Everyone was on high alert; the response was highly professional, and they did an excellent job of treating the patients and managing the situation,” Jeffers emphasized.

All children involved in the accident were successfully reunited with their parents, according to Jeffers. Principal Peter Micheels from St. Mark Lutheran School in Eau Claire commented that they were coordinating efforts with the county sheriff’s department to ensure that children were returned to their caregivers as soon as possible.

“In times of crisis, we place our full trust in the Lord’s care, believing in His guiding hand,” Micheels added, highlighting the community’s response during this challenging time.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the details surrounding the incident and ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
