The Game Awards 2021 left us with many surprises, and one of them was the revelation of Dune: Spice Wars, the new strategy video game set in Frank Herbert’s universe. Developed by Shiro Games and published by Funcom, the title will begin its early access period at sometime in 2022 (Unspecified). According to its file on Steam, it will arrive with texts in Spanish. Enjoy your trailer and meet the first details.
Dune: Spice Wars bets on 4X strategy in real time
Strategy 4X is short for “Explore, Expand, Exploit and Exterminate”. It applies to titles that make use of macro management, regardless of whether the action is turn-based or real-time, as is the case in Dune: Spicer Wars. Although for the moment we will have to wait to know many details, the official synopsis invites us to “explore the landscape in search of signs of worms or risk losing your troops and spice gatherers at the hands of titanic sand worms that will break out of the dunes to swallow them whole. Defeatr your opponents through political intrigue, applyaisrlyou in combat and weakitarthose with your network of spies”.
Exploration will play a fundamental role in the unfolding of the story, as it will have a great impact on discovering resources, finding allies — or enemies — and facing the greatest threats. There will be no lack of common mechanics in the genre such as the management and development of the economy, relations with the different factions and the value of political influence. According to the first details shared by Shiro Games, we will have endless possibilities when it comes to achieving our goal.
Dune: Spice Wars will begin early access on PC via Steam at sometime in 2022.
