Elon Musk asks to delay the start of court battle with Twitter

Elon Musk

Elon Musk presented this Friday (07.15.2022) an appeal to the United States justice so that the process with Twitter does not take place before next year, after the social platform requested a trial for September.

In a court document cited by US media, the Tesla director’s lawyers accuse Twitter’s board of directors (CA) of wanting to speed up the matter.

The CA filed the complaint on Tuesday against Musk, to force him to buy the social network under the terms agreed with the tycoon at the end of April, in which the business was set at 44,000 million dollars.

Twitter executives wanted the process to start in September, in order to shorten the period of uncertainty that partially paralyzes the company.

For his part, the billionaire requested not to start before February 13, given the complexity of the factors involved.

Elon Musk’s lawyers did not immediately respond to AFP requests for comment.

The businessman had committed to the purchase at the end of April, but last week he unilaterally announced that he was ending the agreement after the CA did not send him reliable information about the number of active false accounts on Twitter.

Their lawyers assure that the process requires analyzing “mountains of data” to prove, as Musk affirms, that the platform is plagued by inauthentic accounts, robot accounts and spam, beyond the 5 percent indicated by the Californian group. .

A preliminary hearing will be held on Tuesday before a specialized commercial law court in Delaware (eastern United States).
