Emilia Clarke’s Near-Miss with Samuel L. Jackson on the Set of the MCU’s “Secret Invasion”
(CNN) — Emilia Clarke was thrilled to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but a near-miss with Samuel L. Jackson almost sends her reeling.
In a video interview released Friday, the “Game of Thrones” star revealed to Entertainment that she nearly ran over Jackson on the set of the new MCU series “Secret Invasion.” Clarke described how she was ordered to drive a Lada – which, she explained, “is like a very old Russian car” – for a scene in the sci-fi thriller.
The scene required Clarke to drive up to the camera and Jackson, and stop dead in her tracks. However, the transmission and gear stick of the Lada were confusing, as it had multiple controls and pedals, similar to “a tractor,” Clarke explained.
Despite the confusion and pressure to get the shot as production was running behind schedule, Clarke took the wheel. However, instead of hitting the brakes, she hit the accelerator, causing panic on set.
Fortunately, the actress was able to correct her mistake just in time, avoiding a disaster and a collision with Jackson, who portrays Nick Fury in the Marvel films. Clarke shared that Jackson was “very chivalrous and charming and kind” in handling the situation.
After the incident, Clarke admitted, “then I cried a little bit and someone else drove it for me.”
“Secret Invasion,” which also stars Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, and Oscar winner Olivia Colman, follows the covert infiltration of the alien race Skrulls on planet Earth. These Skrulls were first introduced in 2019’s “Captain Marvel.”
