Bogotá, Dec 13 (EFE) .- In Colombia between January and July 250 guardianships (appeal for protection) were presented daily by citizens who consider that their right to health was violated, according to a report presented this Monday in Manizales (center) , by the Ombudsman’s Office, a figure that last year exceeded 81,000.
“Between January and June of this year, 46,113 guardianships were filed, that is, an average of 250 per day and, although compared to the same period last year there was a decrease of 15%, it is necessary to advance in the guarantee of this right fundamental, “said the Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo.
When presenting the report “The Guardianship and Rights to Health and Social Security 2020”, Camargo explained that the document, prepared by the Delegate for Health and Social Security, warns that last year 81,899 guardianships were filed in Colombia claiming The right to health.
When breaking down the figures, Camargo indicated that the departments in which there were the highest number of appeals were Antioquia with 15,260 (19%); Valle del Cauca with 9,991 (12%); Bogotá with 6,769 (8%); Norte de Santander with 5,992 (7%); Caldas with 5,202 (6%); Santander with 4,649 (6%), and Risaralda with 3,701 (5%).
The Nueva EPS company was established as the most demanded entity in 2020, with 12.39% of the health guardianships, which “corresponds to being the largest EPS (Health Promotion Company) (with 7,346,739 affiliates) and the one with the highest population growth during 2020 (18.47%) “.
“Behind were Medimás (12.34%), Coomeva (7.38%) and Savia Salud (5.35%),” the information added.
Regarding occupational risk insurers (ARL), Positiva was the most demanded with 42%, followed by Sura with 19% and Colpatria life insurance with 9.9%. Colpensiones was the Pension Fund with the most protection in health rights with 67.5%, followed by Protección with 18%.
Due to the figures, Camargo called on “all entities to improve the provision of the service with efficiency and dignity, as this is what is claimed in 60% of the guardianships.”
“Among the most recurrent complaints is the delay in the delivery of drugs,” stressed the defender.
