Since March 12, when he won a Grammy, Kirk Franklin has been in the news. Recently, a private conversation between gospel singer Kirk Franklin, 51, and his estranged son Kerrion Franklin was leaked on Twitter.
This caused a massive scandal. As soon as the phone call was made public, fans took to social media to express their shock and even started taking sides about who was more to blame in the conversation. In the leaked phone call, the singer is angry with his son and uses bad words. Many of Kirk Franklin’s fans on social media are now curious about who his son is.
Who Is Kerrion Franklin?
Kerrion is the oldest son of Kirk and Shawn Ewing. He was born on May 7, 1988. Kirk’s second wife, Tammy Collins, is his stepmother. Like his father, he went to Santa Monica College and went into the arts. In 2015, he was the director of photography for Christina Milian’s clothing line. Since then, he has worked as a director of photography for Evidence Productions and, since 2016, Revolt Media & TV.
He’s called “Swank Frank” because he’s a sound designer when he’s not in front of or behind the camera. He hasn’t talked much about his personal life, but in an episode of Bad Boys, he said he was bisexual and had more than one partner. “Let me put this out there. Since love is blind, I can’t choose who likes me. All I can do is be myself. I have every letter of the alphabet in my direct messages (DMs). I’m polyamorous, and that’s the main thing.”
What Happened Between Kirk Franklin And His Son?
Before the show, Kerrion got attention from the media when he posted a sweary conversation with his father in March 2021. His father called their relationship “toxic.” Kirk later apologized for how he spoke on Instagram, saying he felt “extremely disrespected.” He also put the family therapist on the call, but that part wasn’t recorded.
The Neighborhood Talk shared a clip of Kerrion saying that his mother “abused and assaulted” him six months later. “I’m going to live right to keep myself safe. People are trying to get me to a hospital. This is insane,” he said. The star of “Bad Boys” briefly talked about his family life on the show. He said, “When it comes to dealing with parents, I know about dark waters.” We hope that the Franklin family can get along again quickly.
Kirk Franklin Apology
After the video went viral, Kirk Franklin posted a video on his social media on March 13 in which he apologized for the rude phone call. Kirk Franklin was heard saying, “I’d put my foot in your a—” and “break your neck” during the disturbing conversation. Franklin went on in his minute-long apology to say that his relationship with his 32-year-old son has been “toxic” over the years. He said he has tried to solve their problems by going to therapy and counseling.
Franklin said in the video that he was sorry, “My son and I fought recently, and he chose to record it. I felt like I was being mistreated during that conversation, so I lost my temper and said things that weren’t right. “I’m sorry to everyone, and I’m sorry.” Franklin then said that his son didn’t say anything during the conversation, which is why the artist had to call the family therapist immediately to help. He said, “I’m not perfect. I’m a person who’ll make mistakes, but I’m trying to do the right thing.”
What Was The Video Kerrion Franklin Posted?
Kerrion posted a video of him and his father arguing on Instagram. The footage allegedly showed Kirk insulting his father. During the 45-second audio clip, the fight gets more heated. After a quiet argument, the voice that Kerrion thought was Kirk Franklin said, “I’ll put my foot in your a**!” Kerrion says, “I dare you,” as the argument continues. At the end of the clip, Franklin allegedly says, “I will break your neck, ni***, don’t ever disrespect me again.”
“No, I didn’t,” Kerrion noted, and the call ended quickly. Kerrion posted the video to Instagram with the caption, “This is why I’m done. No father should talk to his kids this way.” Behind closed doors, if I have any problems, it’s because of how I’ve been treated.” He went on: “Hanging up in my face, No apology, no compassion, no effort. Please stop telling me to go home to see my family. I don’t even know where they live. I don’t think I’ll ever again trust my father enough to leave him alone with him. This wasn’t what I wanted to do.
“I probably won’t release the whole recording because it’s embarrassing that I’m even dealing with this. No matter what people think, I pray that my dad gets over how much he hates me. I don’t feel safe at all when I’m around him.
Kerrion added, “Just to be clear, this recording is not from 2018. I’ll learn from these things, live a peaceful life, and make beautiful art.”
