Spotify Executive Bill Simmons Slams Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “Scammers”
Spotify executive and podcaster Bill Simmons has openly criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, referring to them as “scammers” following the termination of their multi-year association with the platform. On his podcast, Simmons expressed his regret for not being involved in the negotiations surrounding “Meghan and Harry leave Spotify,” CNN reported. He went on to vent his frustration, exclaiming, “Fucking scammers. I have to get drunk one night and tell the story of [the Zoom call] I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. What the fuck the scammers!” said Bill Simmons.
“Archetypes” Series and Separation Agreement
According to CNN, the initial agreement between Archewell Audio, Prince Harry’s production company, and Spotify aimed to include multiple programs. However, the final outcome resulted in just one small series titled “Archetypes” and a Christmas special. The series aimed to explore, dissect, and challenge the societal labels that women strive to overcome, as described by the show itself. The interviews conducted by Meghan with individuals such as Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, and Trevor Noah would have been part of this series.
When Spotify announced a reduction of 200 jobs within its podcast unit, representing approximately 2% of its global workforce, Archewell Audio and the company mutually agreed to part ways.
Simmons’ Previous Criticism and Questions Harry’s Relevance
This is not the first time Simmons has criticized Prince Harry. In an episode of his podcast from January 2023, he expressed feeling “ashamed” to share the platform with him. Simmons questioned Harry’s talent, emphasizing that he was simply born into the Royal Family and later chose to leave. Simmons further asserted that Harry’s residence in Montecito and his focus on documentary selling and podcasting failed to generate significant interest. He questioned the relevance of Harry’s opinions, stating, “But nobody really cares what you have to say unless you talk about your family and complain about them. Why are we listening to you?” Simmons said.
