Strawberries and summertime go together like peanut butter and jelly, and if you adore a delightful strawberry dessert, the latest TikTok viral twist on a strawberry shortcake is a must-try.

This trendy dessert is straightforward, budget-friendly, and absolutely delicious. Content creator Gloyoyo recently shared it on her TikTok page, and people were thrilled.

Some commenters mentioned that it reminded them of Japanese fruit sandos, which are crafted using soft white bread, whipped cream, and fruit. Typically, Japanese fruit sandos are layered so that the fruit forms an attractive pattern when sliced in half. Other users likened the dessert to a “snackified eclair” or a “strawberries and cream hoagie.”

“It’s giving dessert hot dog and I’m living for it,” one user commented on Glo’s TikTok post. Regardless of what it reminds you of, it looks too delectable to miss!

This version of the viral strawberry shortcake consists of just three ingredients: chocolate chip Pan Au Lait from Trader Joe’s (though pan au lait can be found elsewhere), strawberries, and whipped cream.

Glo suggests warming the pan au lait by toasting it in a pan with some butter, but she notes that this step is optional. She remarks in her video that during a “snack emergency,” there isn’t time for toasting bread.

To make the sandwich, she slices the roll open like a hot dog bun, then layers a few strawberry slices on one side. She tops the berries with canned whipped cream and adds a few more strawberry slices on top.

She then closes the bun and eats it—it’s that simple!

The internet is buzzing about this new dessert because it is so easy to make and tastes incredible.

“This looks heavenly,” one person said in response to Glo’s TikTok video.

Some pointed out that discount grocery store Aldi sells similar pan au lait bread at a lower price. Others mentioned making the dessert with a croissant or toasted bagel, while some people have experimented with different fruits, such as raspberries, peaches, and blueberries.

You could also drizzle the creation with some honey or top it with shaved chocolate for an extra touch of indulgence.

A few people noted that the dessert reminded them of a UK treat called a cream finger, which is essentially a brioche hot dog bun filled with fruit jam and whipped cream. If you can’t find pan au lait buns, this makes a great alternative.
