The creative process of an unforgettable scene from Final Fantasy VII Remake
In the first place, it explains how that scene came to be on a strictly creative level; a dance that did not leave anyone indifferent. It was divided into five great acts: “First, we decided on the general structure of the scene, which consisted of the opening show, the three phases of the dance contest, and finally the final scene. In addition, we elaborated a general scheme for each part and its duration ”, Toriyama begins detailing.
What we did not know, until now, is that since Square Enix the idea of including a pole-dancing bar, something more linked to the adult public and more complex to justify within the PEGI 16 and equivalents; that is, on the border between a video game for minors or only for adults. Mitsuto Suzuki, composer of the work, came to travel to Roppongi, Japan, to develop that inspiration. They finally discarded it.
“For this scene, we commission a team of professional dancers to perform burlesque shows and choreographies. They proposed to change the concept and the choreography for each section of the dance contest ”, testifies the creative. “So much so that we made several recordings and corrections when recording the scene. Initially, for example, we include a pole dancing scene, which meant that filming began on an elaborate set. We decided to delete that part because of the impact on the rating!“, recognize.
The commitment to assume would have been to turn Final Fantasy VII Remake into a PEGI 18 video game or equivalent in the rest of the markets.
