First Look: Michael Sheen Transforms into Prince Andrew

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled first-look images of Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson in the new series A Very Royal Scandal, centered around the notorious BBC interview with Prince Andrew discussing Jeffrey Epstein.

The released photos exhibit Sheen, known for roles in Good Omens and Prodigal Son, as the embattled British royal, while Wilson, famed for performances in Luther and The Affair, portrays journalist Emily Maitlis. The series aims to showcase the influence of journalism amid a significant blemish on the monarchy’s reputation.

Described as “one night, one hour, one interview that sent shockwaves around the globe,” the series spans three episodes. It is inspired by the real 2019 interview where Maitlis confronted Prince Andrew about the serious accusations involving his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she had sexual encounters with the royal while underage.

Set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand on September 19, A Very Royal Scandal delves into the events leading up to the interview, the intense conversation itself, and its aftermath. These events had profound effects on the lives of those involved.

The series features a stellar cast including Joanna Scanlan (After Love, Notes on a Scandal) as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings (Your Christmas or Mine?) as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) as Stewart Maclean, and Claire Rushbrook (Secrets & Lies) as Sarah Ferguson.

The show was directed by Julian Jarrold and written by Jeremy Brock, produced by Blueprint Television for Amazon MGM Studios. Sony Pictures Television is handling worldwide distribution.

Executive producers include Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Diarmuid McKeown, Jeremy Brock, Julian Jarrold, and Emily Maitlis herself. Josh Hyams has taken up the role of producer.
