11 Bit Studios has officially announced Frostpunk 2, the sequel to the acclaimed winter city building and strategy game.
Set 30 years after an apocalyptic blizzard, Frostpunk 2 will advance and improve on the foundations built by the first game. Now players will have to establish an oil extraction industry to feed their ever-demanding city, while presiding over its citizens and frequently choosing between ruthless survival and human rights.
“What players should expect is a wide universe of options, freedom to shape society and the city as they see fit, and reap the consequences.“said Frostpunk 2 co-director Jakub Stokalski in a press release.”Frostpunk 2 is based on the conflicts of its predecessor: survival versus human values, life versus Arctic ice. But the most important thing is that it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, be it society, be it technological progress. the conflict between humans and their nature“.
A new trailer that you can see above reminds us of the brutal methods of survival and society that were seen in the original game, with a man left to death by freezing beyond the city limits, his chest painted in blood with the word “liar.” Behind him is a bank of oil pumps, indicating the shift from coal to oil as the center of Frostpunk 2’s resource management layer.
Frostpunk 2 will be available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, and it is pre-order now, although no release date has been announced yet.. If you are curious about the franchise, you can play the first Frostpunk for free during this weekend on Steam until August 16.
