Say the end of Game of Thrones from HBO it’s controversial, it falls short. Two years after final from serie, the closing of the popular series remains a hot topic of conversation for a wide variety of reasons, including how the stories were resolved.
Among the least pleased is the author George RR Martin. While Martin is the author of the books, the series ended up outperforming the books. Now Martin, who is still working on the last novel in the series, says that its ending will be different from that of the series.
“My biggest problem was when they started the series, I already had four books in print and the fifth came out just as the series started in 2011. I had a five book lead, I never thought they would catch up with me, but they did. They caught up with me and passed me.” Martin told PBS.
That fifth book was A Dance with Dragons and there hasn’t been a book in the series since then, although Martin has been working on The Winds of Winter for some time and while he was also involved in HBO’s Game of Thrones, there were enough changes.
For the series, that story ultimately took a direction that has left fans with concerns, and a direction that is different than what Martin will take the story when it concludes in the seventh and final book, A Dream of Spring.
“That made it a little strange because now the show was ahead of me and the show was going in somewhat different directions,” Martin said. “So I’m still working on the book, but you’ll see my end when it comes out.”
As for when The Winds of Winter and finally A Dream of Spring will be out, that’s still a pretty big question. At this point, there is no estimate of when fans can wait for The Winds of Winter.
Martin has offered somewhat regular updates on The Winds of Winter, but while work continues, there is no end in sight and work does not appear to have begun on A Dream of Spring.
It could be quite a while before Game of Thrones fans really get Martin’s version of how things end in Westeros, though they won’t have to wait much longer to see more stories set in that general universe.
