Washington, Jul 19 (EFE) .- General Motors (GM) revealed this Monday that it will introduce the new Corvette Z06 supercar this fall and that in the future it will produce an electric pickup truck for its GMC brand that will be added to the GMC Hummer EV that the company plans to launch by the end of the year.
The Corvette Z06 is a high-performance version of Chevrolet’s Corvette sports car. But GM did not reveal today whether the Corvette Z06 will be one of 30 new electric vehicles that the US manufacturer plans to launch between now and 2025.
For now, the electric vehicles that GM has confirmed are the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck, the Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq SUVs and an electric version of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
In the video in which GM announced today the introduction of the Corvette Z06 this fall, the company indicated that “the streets will never sound the same.” GM added that the Z06 supercar will be “a warning to the world.”
In August 2020, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, revealed that he had been informed that GM was working on an electric version of the Corvette, one of the most iconic sports cars in the country, and that it would reach a maximum speed of 322 kilometers per hour. .
The announcement of the Corvette Z06 comes just weeks before the American consumer can begin to order the Corvette Stingray, the first version of the model with an engine located in the middle of the vehicle.
Also today, executives from GMC, GM’s brand specializing in the production of pickup trucks and SUVs, revealed that they will launch an electric pickup truck in the future.
But the company did not give more details, such as launch dates or if it will be an electric version of the current GMC Sierra.
GM’s main rival Ford introduced the Lightning, the electric version of the F-150 pickup truck, the best-selling vehicle in America for 40 years in May.
