Daisy Ridley will once again don the role of Rey Skywalker in the upcoming Star Wars feature film. This news was announced during Star Wars Celebration, where Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm revealed that the film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and will be set fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The acclaimed director spoke in an interview during the conference about the project and the importance of storytelling. “The best part of my life was spent meeting real heroes who overcame oppressive regimes, fighting against impossible odds, and I think that’s the heart of Star Wars. And that’s why I’m drawn to the goal of a new Jedi Order, and the idea of immersing myself in a Jedi Academy, through a powerful Jedi Master,” she said.

The Star Wars universe will also see three new movies in production. The stories will be set at various moments of the galactic chronology, but very few details have been revealed so far. James Mangold, director of Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate will helm one of the films, set during the “dawn of the Jedi.” According to Mangold in an interview, it will explore the birth of the strength of the Jedi, their beginnings and who the first Jedi was. Meanwhile, Dave Filoni, the creator of The Mandalorian, will be taking charge of the third film, which will wrap up many of the interconnected storylines between various series and focus on the New Republic.

Finally, The Acolyte will be a thrilling saga set a hundred years before The Phantom Menace, and it will be influenced by samurai cinema. The series will dive into the golden age of the Jedi and the birth of the Sith. A release date for the highly anticipated second season of Andor has also been announced, with the series premiering in August 2024.
