The wait is finally over for Outlander fans as the release date for the seventh and penultimate season has been announced. From June 17th, viewers can tune in to their favorite romantic drama on Movistar Plus+ every Friday.
The seventh season will have a total of 16 episodes, making it the longest season in the history of the series. Fans will only be able to see the first half of this season during summer as the remaining eight episodes are set to release in 2024.
The show is based on the novels in the saga written by Diana Gabaldon and follows the adventures, time travel, and romances of the protagonists, Claire and Jamie. The upcoming season will see the couple face one of their more complicated stages.
Apart from the two main protagonists, the cast is completed by several new and returning actors. Season 7 is based on the book An Echo in the Bone and is set in the United States, Canada, London, and Scotland.
The book has four main plotlines, including Jamie and Claire, Roger and Brianna (and family), Lord John and William, and young Ian, all with interconnected stories at the nexus of the American Revolution.
Diana Gabaldon has also written part of the first episode of the new season. With the end of Outlander in sight, Starz is already working on its prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which delves into the love story between Ellen Mackenzie and Brian Fraser, Jamie’s parents.
The seventh season places the Frasers in North Carolina in the year 1777. As the American rebellion grows, Jamie and Claire must decide whose side their family will be on. Meanwhile, in the relative safety of the 20th century, Brianna and Roger are forced to find clues to Claire’s fate as soon as possible.
With so much thrilling content and drama to look forward to, Outlander fans are in for a treat with the upcoming season. So mark your calendars and tune in from June 17th to follow the journey of your favorite characters.
