Google is announcing three new functions for iOS users for its online map service. You will soon be able to share your live location directly in iMessage, configure new widgets and also switch to dark mode.

In one Blog post, Google announces the new features for the coming weeks on. In the future, the live location can be shared directly from the Apple messaging service iMessage. The location can be shared for up to three days to ensure greater security – the default setting is one hour. For example, friends or family members can see the location and intervene should the person sharing the location suddenly take an unscheduled route.

A new control element “Nearby Traffic” placed directly on the home screen enables faster access to traffic information in the vicinity. In 2016, a function with information on the local traffic situation was introduced, which, in contrast to the new feature, displayed traffic information on the lock screen. Another, new control element can be used to navigate to frequently visited destinations or favorite places.

In the near future, the “Dark Mode” will also be available in Google Maps for iOS; it has been available for Android since the beginning of the year. The update promises Google iPhone owners not only easy eyes but also more economical battery consumption. At the end of last year, Google introduced an optional dark mode for user interfaces for smart displays.
