The representation of the Government of Venezuela on Tuesday incorporated the diplomat Álex Saab as a full member of the Dialogue Table that Mexico is holding with the Unitary Platform, which brings together the radical opposition of the South American country.
This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the government delegation in the dialogue process, Jorge Rodríguez, at a press conference held in Caracas, where he explained that the incorporation of Saab will be informed to the Kingdom of Norway, which acts as a mediator of the talks process. .
Rodríguez recalled that Saab, who is Venezuela’s plenipotentiary ambassador to Africa, has been detained “illegally” on the island of Cape Verde since June 2020 at the request of the US government.
The also president of the Venezuelan parliament added that Saab has also been incorporated “with full functions”, as a full delegate “before the Social Table that was approved in the Partial Agreement for the care of the people of Venezuela, signed in Mexico.”
Saab’s capture occurred in circumstances that Caracas qualifies as irregular and in violation of his diplomatic immunity, since it occurred when he was traveling to Iran to complete the purchase of medicine and food for the Venezuelan population, to try to circumvent the unilateral blockade imposed by USA and the European Union against the South American country.
