Singer Halsey has shared one of her most intimate and painful experiences to substantiate her position in favor of abortion rights, a right that has not been recognized as such by the U.S. Supreme Court in its decision to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling. Wade who, until now, protected the voluntary interruption of pregnancy at the federal level.

The pop star, who took in her son Ender last year, has revealed she suffered three miscarriages in the years leading up to the arrival of her firstborn. Two of them were spontaneous and one in particular had to be done voluntarily in order to protect his health and, in his own words, to save his life.

“Many people have asked me if, after giving birth after so many years fighting for it, I have reconsidered my position on abortion,” reads an excerpt from his new opinion piece for Vogue magazine, in which he has made it clear that the right to abortion is, among other things, a factor that guarantees the well-being of those people who are at risk of losing their lives.

“My abortion saved my life and allowed my son to have his own. Everyone has the right to decide when and if they want to have this experience, which is life-altering and can endanger it. I will grab my son’s hand with one arm and fight with all my strength with the other to protect this right,” said the 27-year-old artist.
