Both presidential candidates are actively energizing their supporters as the election approaches. Vice President Kamala Harris is in Michigan, while former President Donald Trump rallies in Washington. During a recent speech touting his economic accomplishments, President Joe Biden also expressed strong support for Harris, simultaneously issuing a warning regarding the potential economic consequences of a second Trump term.
Biden emphasized that there is no job that a woman cannot perform just as well as a man, including the role of President of the United States. He declared, “And there’s not a single damn job a woman can’t do that a man can do, including being president of the United States of America,” garnering cheers and applause from the crowd.
In his address, Biden criticized the economic policies of his predecessor, suggesting that the trickle-down economic approach had failed in the past and would inevitably fail again if reinstated. “It’s clear, especially under my predecessor, that trickle-down economics failed,” he stated, referring to Trump’s promises to revive this economic approach.
Meanwhile, Senate Democrats voiced their concerns about Trump’s influence and his Project 2025 initiative. During a gathering on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Trump’s plans, asserting that they would raise taxes and jeopardize American workers. “This is the Trump plan,” Schumer declared, highlighting the potential threats to border security and democracy.
Trump, however, has attempted to distance himself from this conservative initiative. Speaking to a large audience on Long Island, he confidently proclaimed that his campaign aims to reclaim New York for Republicans, stating, “It hasn’t been done in many decades. But we are going to win New York.”
Despite New York’s historical alignment with the Democratic Party in presidential elections, Trump is targeting suburban swing voters in Long Island with strong rhetoric surrounding crime and immigration. He urged voters to support him, stating, “With crime at record levels, with terrorists and criminals pouring in, and with inflation eating your hearts out, vote for Donald Trump. What the hell do you have to lose?”
During his campaign speech, Trump also repeated assertions about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. He claimed, “We’re getting them out of our country. They came in illegally. They’re destroying our country.” However, the city of Springfield has clarified that its Haitian residents entered the United States legally and are contributing to industries in need of workers.
While Trump continues his campaign efforts, he was scheduled to speak at a summit for Israeli Americans later that evening. On the other hand, Vice President Harris was campaigning alongside media mogul Oprah Winfrey in battleground Michigan, a state crucial for both parties.
In Michigan, the home of the National Uncommitted Movement, leaders announced that they will not endorse Harris. This movement played a significant role in the Democratic primaries, mobilizing a substantial number of uncommitted votes as a protest against Biden’s policies, particularly regarding Gaza. Abbas Alawieh, a leader within the movement, expressed dissatisfaction with Harris’s stance on weapons policy and her failure to affirm U.S. and international human rights laws. “Her unwillingness to shift on unconditional weapons policy has made it impossible for us to endorse her,” Alawieh stated.
The uncommitted leaders also encouraged their members to refrain from voting for Trump, although the impact of their non-endorsement on the upcoming election remains uncertain.
