Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone turns 20. For this reason, some cinemas have decided to re-release it, an ideal moment to relive the magic of yesteryear. Chris Columbus, director of the first two films and producer of the third, has returned to talk about the original version of the film, which lasted about 3 hours. It is not the first time that this issue has come to light, but this time the filmmaker has expressed his desire that the extended cut be released.
A journalist from The Wrap has asked him about this possibility: “I would love it too”, He confessed. “We had to remove Peeves from the movie, so he was cut from the final cut.” The mischievous poltergeist is a character that appears in all the books of the young wizard, although he completely disappeared from the cinematic universe.
“We knew the movie had worked because we had done a couple of screenings,” said Columbus. “Particularly on the Chicago pass, where our first cutoff was three hours. Afterwards, the parents said that [la película] it was too long, but the children found it short. I thought hey, kids have presumably less attention spans, so that was a good thing. ” Almost an hour and a half of film was removed from that initial footage.

In Warner they know nothing
A representative for Warner Bros has said that does not know if there are plans launching this extended version, but now that it’s 20th anniversary and there is a platform like HBO Max, it might be a good time to do it. After all, Zack Snyder’s Justice League had its chance, and that lasted even longer.
To celebrate two decades of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, HBO Max will reunite the starring trio in Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts. Thus, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, as well as many other stars of the saga, will talk about Potter’s legacy from January 1, 2022.
