The Haunted Mansion, a Disney family adventure spookfest, has been one of the most anticipated films since its announcement. Eddie Murphy appeared in the first “Haunted Mansion” film, which was released in 2003.

While it made $182 million worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo), the film’s budget was a hefty $90 million, and reviewers and moviegoers alike despised it (via Rotten Tomatoes). Following that, Disney abandoned the site. The Hollywood Reporter reported in 2020 that a new “Haunted Mansion” film was in the works.

The 2003 ride-based Haunted Mansion film deserves a revival, and it’s finally getting one. Fans have been waiting to see when the film, which is based on the company’s famous theme park attractions, will be released. Disney just revealed that Haunted Mansion will be released next year, after much anticipation So far, we’ve learned all we know about the film, from who will feature in it to when it will begin filming.

Haunted Mansion Release Date – When will it be released?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has set a date for the premiere of its much-awaited project Haunted Mansion. The picture will be released on March 10, 2023, according to the studio, which announced the date on Friday, February 25. Wanaka, a Warner Bros. film, is set to release on March 17, 2023, and will compete with the film.

Principal filming will begin in October on-site in Atlanta, Georgia, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Given the current situation of the globe, with the epidemic still raging and the safety procedures that go along with it, it’s difficult to predict when the film will be completed. This will be determined by how successfully shooting and post-production proceed, as well as the release schedule over the following few years.

Disney is likely to desire “Haunted Mansion” to be in a slot with the least amount of competition as feasible. Essentially, supporters will have to wait for further information.

Haunted Mansion Plot – What To Expect?

At the present, plot specifics for “Haunted Mansion” are scant, since Disney is holding such secrets of the project close to its chest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will follow a family who moves into the mansion and their encounters with the otherworldly. The film will, however, place a strong emphasis on the family, making “Haunted Mansion” more of an ensemble piece than anything else.

Thanks to its great cast and narrative, “Haunted Mansion” is shaping up to be a very different film than its 2003 predecessor. Whether or whether the picture appeals to both reviewers and audiences will almost completely depend on the tale it chooses to convey.  We can only wait till Disney reveals more information and cross our hopes that Eddie Murphy makes an appearance, as there isn’t anything substantial available now in that regard.

Haunted Mansion Cast – Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson have recently the cast

According to Deadline, Rosario Dawson confirmed on September 9, 2021, that she would be joining the cast of the Disney spook-fest, just one day after Loki’s Owen Wilson announced his participation. In July 2021, LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish were allegedly the first cast members to sign up for the film. The latest “Haunted Mansion” film has an impressive cast. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Owen Wilson would feature in the film, which extends the actor’s collaboration with Disney during his comeback.

Haddish will play a psychic hired to converse with the dead — presumably those in the estate — while Stanfield will play a tour guide. It’s unclear who Wilson will portray in the film, however considering that it’s a major part, it’ll most likely be someone vital to the plot rather than a minor supporting character. Other casting announcements have yet to be made, but that is expected to change once “Haunted Mansion” begins filming next month.

Undoubtedly, Haunted Mansion intends to repeat the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean series on its second attempt. Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, is now demonstrating that such popularity can be duplicated; the film reached the $100 million milestones in August 2021, establishing it as a franchise.

Haunted Mansion, based on the Disneyland attraction that debuted in 1969, attempted a film adaptation in 2003. Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly, and Terence Stamp appeared in the film. The film was a modest hit, but it paled in contrast to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which nearly shut down the box office the following year and spawned four sequels. According to Deadline, Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters, 2016) will write the script and Justin Simien will helm the new Haunted Mansion (Bad Hair, 2020.)

The Haunted Mansion Filming Status

The plot and script are being kept under wraps for the time. However, according to Deadline, filming on the film will begin next month. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirish’s Rideback production business, which was responsible for the live-action adaptation of Aladdin in 2009, will produce it. Production will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, according to TheDisInsider, and the film will be released in theaters.

Disney Developing New Live-Action “The Haunted Mansion” Movie - Disneyland News Today

Originally, Guillermo Del Toro was set to direct a ‘Haunted Mansion’ film

Oscar-winner Guillermo Del Toro, the monster mastermind behind 2017’s gothic haunted house picture Crimson Peak, was originally recruited to direct a Disney feature. Given Del Toro’s understanding of the otherworldly, it appeared to make a lot of sense. However, it was not to be.

According to Cinemablend, the 2010 news ultimately disappeared, and the new Simien-led version took its place. Del Toro’s concept for the film, according to reports, revolved around the old ‘Hatbox ghost,’ and would bear little relation to the 2003 adaptation.

Although a release date has yet to be set, fans are excited about the recent advancements on the family-friendly ghost flick. One fan wrote, “No way, Rosario Dawson is joining the upcoming Disney movie Haunted Mansion.” “Wow, that’s incredible.” Currently, the Haunted Mansion theme is on hiatus. This week, Disney+ also revealed that a Muppets Haunted Mansion special will premiere in October.
