Phoebe Cates: From ‘Gremlins’ Star to Boutique Owner

Phoebe Cates is best known for her role as Kate Beringer in the 1984 horror comedy film ‘Gremlins’. However, despite her success in the film industry, her career never took off as she had hoped, and she eventually disappeared from Hollywood.

Although her professional life seemed to be at a standstill, Cates’s personal life was thriving. She married actor Kevin Kline in 1989, and when they had their children Owen and Greta in 1991 and 1994, she made the decision to put her acting career aside and focus on her family.

After retiring from the cinema in the 2000s, Cates opened a boutique called Blue Tree on Madison Avenue in New York City. This venture allowed her to pursue her childhood dream of working in the fashion industry. Cates felt that the neighborhood lacked a place that offered personalized fashion products and accessories that covered all areas.

Through her website and social media profiles, customers can explore the different fashion products, jewelry, and accessories that she sells at Blue Tree, which is currently her main source of income and a “mom and pop shop” as Cates defines it.

In 2015, Cates made a brief return to the spotlight when she voiced her character from ‘Gremlins’ in the video game LEGO Dimensions. Despite her limited return to acting, her fulfilling professional and personal life proves that she has achieved her dreams and is living happily with her family.
