We all know R&B singer Keyshia Cole and her powerful voice that has made many fans go gaga about her. The singer began her career at a very young age of 12 years when she met MC Hammer and the late rapper Tupac Shakur. She then moved to LA to pursue her career in music and was later introduced to A&M Records. After releasing her first album, The Way It Is, in 2005, Keyshia became a popular name.
All hell broke for the singer on a personal front when she lost her mother last year. The whole family put the news of the cause of their mother’s death under wraps for some time. However, she has come out with concrete answers regarding what killed her beloved mother, Frankie Lons.
What Happened to Frankie Lons
According to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, Lons’ death was caused as a result of multiple drug intoxication. The report on her death revealed that the singer’s mother died of an accidental overdose. Unfortunately, she was celebrating her 61st birthday when she succumbed to such over-intoxication.
Frankie Lons was a Drug Addict
It was not the first time that Lons decided to get overboard with the use of drugs. Her addiction has been long documented. Cole fans first met her mother when she appeared on Cole’s BET reality series, Keyshia Cole: The Way it is. The show revealed so many facts about their personal life and relationship.
Cole and Lons were estranged since birth as the daughter was adopted by a family friend when she was a little child. Cole later learned that she was adopted after running into some government paperwork. She began to search for her mother and the two reunited.
The duo reunited after Cole became an adult, and her mother became nationally known with this show that ran on BET from 2006 to 2008. Interestingly, Frankie also starred in a spin-off series to this show, Frankie & Neffie that aired in 2009.
Frankie was seen as a regular guest on Keyshia’s BET reality show, where the duo shared many heart-to-heart moments. It is the same time when Keyshia revealed everything about her mother’s struggle with addiction.
The News Was Disclosed by Cole’s Brother
