Customize your AirPods gesture controls

Once you put on your AirPods and start listening to music, you can tap the physical earbud to move to the next song, or remove an AirPod to pause it.

But what if you find yourself reverting to a previous song rather than skipping forward? Or do you want to press to pause instead of removing the headphones completely? We tell you how you can customize the gestures of the AirPods by following these steps:

  1. Connect your AirPods to your phone and then open the Settings.
  2. Tap on Bluetooth and then on the little one button “i” next to your AirPods in the device list.
  3. This will take you to the settings of your AirPods.
  4. On the next screen, tap on “Left or right”. This will allow you to choose what the double tap will do on each AirPod.
  5. Choose which gesture you want for each AirPod.
  6. The options are Activate Siri, Play / Pause, Next Track, Previous Track, or turn off gestures entirely. Both sides have the same options.
  7. Go back to the AirPods settings and decide if you want activate Automatic Ear Detection.
  8. Below the options Left and right there is also a Option for Automatic Ear Detection, which detects when your AirPods are removed or put back on and can pause and play your sound. If you prefer to control this manually or opt for double tap, denable this option.
  9. And that’s it. Once the controls are configured to your liking, you just have to exit setup and resume using the AirPods, now with the gestures of your choice
