The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global body for the airline industry, said on Wednesday it will launch a digital travel passport with COVID-19 test results and vaccination certificates. on the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL ) platform in mid-April.
The launch of the digital travel passport, currently in the testing phase, was scheduled for the end of March.
IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East Kamil Alawadhi said he expects the launch on the Apple platform around April 15 and later on the Android platform.
“But the app will only be successful once airlines, different countries, airports adopt it,” Alawadhi said.
British carrier Virgin Atlantic said on Friday it would test IATA’s application on its London to Barbados route from April 16. Barbados has said it will accept the passport at its border, one of the first countries to accept a digital passport instead of paper documents.
IATA has said that your travel passport will help speed up the “check in” process before flights.
